Honoring Earth Day Through Mālama on Kauaʻi
Honoring Earth Day Through Mālama on Kauaʻi
Earth Day is a time to reflect on our relationship with the places we call home — and here on Kauaʻi, that connection runs especially deep. This island is more than a destination of extraordinary beauty. It is a living, sacred place that nourishes all who live here and all who visit.
An integral part of Hawaiian culture is mālama — to care for, protect, and preserve. It is a value that reminds us that our responsibility to the land, ocean, and community is ongoing. At Jack Harter Helicopters, we understand the importance of caring for our beloved island of Kauaʻi, and we are proud to support that effort in meaningful ways.
While guests may know us for the breathtaking aerial experiences we provide, our connection to Kauaʻi goes far beyond the skies. We are deeply grateful to call this island home, and we believe in doing our part to give back to the community and natural environments that make it so special.
Living the Value of Mālama
At Jack Harter Helicopters, mālama is not just an idea we admire — it is something we strive to put into action. We make a great effort to provide volunteer services in any way we can, especially when those efforts help protect Kauaʻi’s fragile ecosystems and support the people and organizations doing important work on the ground.
Our role as a helicopter company gives us a unique opportunity to contribute in ways that can make a real difference, particularly in remote areas that are otherwise difficult to access. We see that as both a privilege and a responsibility.
Supporting Ocean Debris Removal with Surfrider Foundation
For years, Jack Harter Helicopters has maintained an ongoing partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, donating our services to help remove tons of ocean debris from remote Kauaʻi beaches.
This work is an important example of mālama in action. Kauaʻi’s coastlines are among the island’s most precious natural resources, but many remote shoreline areas are vulnerable to marine debris that washes ashore and threatens wildlife, ecosystems, and the health of the land and sea. Because some of these locations are difficult to reach by foot, aerial support can play an important role in helping with cleanup efforts.
We are honored to assist Surfrider Foundation in their mission to protect Kauaʻi’s fragile coastal environments. Their commitment to preserving the island’s natural beauty and ecological health is inspiring, and we couldn’t be more proud to support their efforts through the resources we are able to provide.
It is a reminder that caring for the island often requires collective effort — organizations, volunteers, and local partners all coming together to protect what makes Kauaʻi so extraordinary.
Fly for a Cause: Supporting Kauaʻi’s Native Forest Birds
Our commitment to community care also extends into the island’s rainforest ecosystems through our Fly for a Cause: Support Kauaʻi Forest Bird Recovery Project on Your Helicopter Tour initiative.
This program invites guests to elevate their helicopter adventure while giving back to Kauaʻi’s native wildlife. As they soar above the lush, emerald rainforests of the island, they are flying over sacred landscapes that are home to some of the world’s most endangered and cherished forest birds.
These native birds are an irreplaceable part of Kauaʻi’s natural and cultural heritage. Supporting their protection is one more way we can honor the island and help care for its future.
Through this initiative, a helicopter tour becomes more than an unforgettable sightseeing experience. It becomes an opportunity to connect more deeply with the land below and contribute to the preservation of the species that call it home.
A Deeper Way to Experience Kauaʻi
There is something powerful about seeing Kauaʻi from above. From the dramatic ridgelines and hidden waterfalls to the vast rainforests and rugged coastline, the island’s beauty has a way of inspiring awe and perspective.
But with that perspective also comes a deeper appreciation for how precious and vulnerable these places are.
On Earth Day, we are reminded that experiencing a place should also come with respect for it. At Jack Harter Helicopters, we are proud to support efforts that protect Kauaʻi’s coastlines, forests, and wildlife — and proud to work alongside organizations and community members who share that same sense of responsibility.
Caring for Kauaʻi, Together
Mālama is ultimately about relationships. It is about understanding that the land cares for us, and in return, we must care for it.
At Jack Harter Helicopters, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve not only our guests, but also our island community. Whether through supporting ocean debris removal with Surfrider Foundation or helping raise awareness and support for native forest bird recovery, we remain committed to caring for the places that make Kauaʻi so special.
This Earth Day, we invite both residents and visitors alike to reflect on how we can all practice mālama — not just for a day, but every day.
